Thunder over Louisville is back this year after taking 2020 off due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.  April 17th, 2021, Thunder returns with the theme “Illuminating Our Community,” which KDF officials hope is accomplished with this year’s firework spectacular after a really tough year. 

2021’s Thunder will not take place at Waterfront Park and will not include spectators. Instead, the show will be a made-for-television event as the air show and fireworks are moved to undisclosed locations around the community. “Our goal is to bring Thunder to fans the best and safest way we can,” said Matt Gibson, Kentucky Derby Festival President and CEO in the March 25th press release from KDF. KDF has created a “Thunder At Home” tab at ThunderOverLouisville.org that includes various activities, food and beverage recipes, Zoom backgrounds and more!

Mix 106.9 will be broadcasting live from 8Up Elevated Drinkery & Kitchen on April 17th from 12-10pm!
